A drop in completed translations

Posted in Datorer, l10n, lxde by Martin Bagge / brother on 8/6 2009

Hi everyone
Time for another motivator, aka the statistics update for LXDE.
Two weeks ago we had 13 languages completed, since a update in LXPanel we obviously had a drop in the numbers for this update.
Arabic, Portugese, Spanish, Swedish and Ukrainian is completed (930 million speakers in total with English).
In the runners up category (90%+ done) we have 755 million speakers for German, Danish, French, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Malay, Dutch, Polish, Brazilian Portugese, Slovak, Slovenian, Urdu (and Urdu as spoken in Pakistan). Most notable in this category is the addition of Hungarian as an almost complete translation only missing some strings in PCManFM (note: no access to that repository?).

And in the field of need work not much has happened the last two weeks. We have added Begali as a new language just some days ago and the total number of speakers in this category is in range of 500+ million people.
Afrikaans, Bulgarian, Bengali, Persian, Galician, Malayam, Norweigan (Bokmål and Nynorsk), Pashto, Turkish and Vietnamese.

For the time being I can not see that any particular component or language needs special attention. Keep the good work up and try to finish your translations. No release seems to be imminent though.
For the real time statistics see the pootle index page, read the crash course if you want to start doing some translations.

LXDE translation statistics

Posted in Datorer, l10n, lxde by Martin Bagge / brother on 8/3 2009

Late Friday (CET) I posted some statistics about the translation effort of LXDE to the translation mailing list. Noted that three languages had only one string left and all of them have reviewed their translations and are now completed. Nice work!

Posts like these, announceing the effort and progress are a motivator I guess and below I’ll sum up the current status according to the pootle main page.

Arabic, English, Idonesian, Polish, Slovak, Swedish and Ukrainian are the languages that are noted as complete. In reach of 100% with not too much effort is German and Czech with abou 10% left. Around 20% left are some 10 languages and after that it declines fast. (After my work at Debian the French effort is really a disappointment =)).

Any way, the LXDE project has support for 33 languages in some way. The pootle server is easy to use and I’ll post a guide for it at the wiki in the near future.

LXDE, pootle finally!

Posted in l10n, lxde by Martin Bagge / brother on 11/2 2009

In November and December there were an short discussion about what tool to use for l10n in LXDE. A poll was constructed (a bad decision path however) and Transifex locally hosted was the winner. Then nothing happened. Some people did try to restart the discussion and come to a solution but still noone made an effort to make it work.

As the days go by more and more languages got completed even when there where no easy to use tool available. This lead me to setup a server for the sole purpose to host some l10n tool for LXDE. Installed the server for two weeks ago or something but didn’t manage to get to the interesting part and install some software. The original plan was to host both a Transifex anda Pootle install so anyone could pick as they prefered. I have only finished the Pootle install and it was messy enough and my time is still short.

Well. If you are intrereseted to give the Pootle install a try, e-mail me at brother@bsnet.se or get in contact by IRC (oftc #lxde as br0ther- for sure but other networks could work). As of now only Swedish is using the actual files from SVN and there are no magic I have to run all updates manually.

LXDE på svenska

Posted in Datorer, l10n by Martin Bagge / brother on 5/1 2009

Svenska i Debian

Posted in Debian, l10n by Martin Bagge / brother on 5/9 2008
